Smart Suitcase
by Jose Usquiano and Weiming Jiang
There are problems that if people don’t go through it, we don’t know the problem exist. If we knew something is an issue, we may think it is not a big deal until we face it or live with it. This is the case of handicapped people. Handicapped people most of the times need assistance of others because they cannot do everything by themselves. We wish to help them 100%, but it is a big job and requires dedication. We want to start doing something for them, building something that can make their lives easier, especially when they have to travel. We are building a smart suitcase.
The particulars of this suitcase is that it will be smart. An able bodied person can put the suitcase on a scale or weight themselves with the suitcase together and then, subtract their weight to know the total weigh of the suitcase itself, but for a handicapped person it will be complicated. This is why our suitcase will automatically show in a display the total weight of it once it is closed and in upright position. This way a person will know if it is over loaded or not.
The other characteristic of the suitcase is that a person will not need to push or pull it; it will follow them wherever they go. Therefore, having theirs hands free for other things they need, either to use their crutches or move their wheelchairs to mention some of the situations.
